When trying to talk to a JW what is the best method?
by omerp inif there is someone whom is a long time jw, how do you bring him back into reality or is that possible?
how do you make them reflect that it is possible that they are wrong about the bible track society?
anything you say they alway twist it around anyways with their prepared answers.

i wont be a holy roller, but i am searching for something.
by blumandy inhi all, ive been disfellowshipped 11 years, and ive blindly went through life, but with in the past 5 years, getting married, having kids, ive started to want to learn of god.i feel being raised in the jw's i wasnt ever taught, and what i did learn was force fed, and i dont think it was 100% truth.truth to them, but not exactally biblical.
anyhow, ive started doing my research , im reading the book of john now, and its pretty amazing, mind u im reading some verses over and over, to make sure i am understanding them, but it feels great.
great to know i can freely read my bible, of my choosing, and benifit on my own.ofcourse, i think its freaking my husband out, he knows ill never be a jw, (its a cult ,i feel)and a holy roller im not.

measuring up is exactly how JWs and other trap you into their web of lies.... you are a part of the single unfolding of reality and cannot be anyone but who and what you are at this moment, ever... but they want you to measure yourself against some ideal fantasy which rejects reality and feel bad because you are real and not ideal.
you can and will change as your life changes and you learn and grow, but you are not what you will be...so why feel bad about what you cannot be at this moment? feeling bad about it actually clouds your mind and prevents you from seeing things clearly, gets you to war against yourself rather than heal yourself.... when you find peace no one needs to tell you, but when you not at peace its not always easy to see why or which way to go to find peace again--yet with your best skill and judgement you gamble towards that goal and there will be no regrets if you realize that you did the best you could have at that moment.
if our judgement is clouded that is the best judgement we have at the moment, there is no use whining and crying about it later after it cannot be undone...yet so many do just that.

Is is easier to just forget about religion as a whole??
by EC ini feel like i am getting bitter and that is onr thing i do not want to be...but this whole religion, god thing is gets to be too much... .
i do believe there is a creator, but have no idea what the purpose is.....i've tried the whole jesus thing, but really that doesn't make too much sence to me either....so where does that leave me???
in limbo....so i would rather just forget it all... .

religion is a dis-ease and the cure is simple, honesty.
once I determined to be completely honest with myself, I could stop pretending and just pay attention to what is going on.
I dont have to pretend to understand how things work nor why they work and I dont have to pretend to know there is any meaning to living other than the meaning it brings me....
I can accept that my perceptions are facts, but not any of my beliefs about them.... I cannot be sure that I am not dreaming, thus the name.
there are a lot of what if's and I dont have to pick any of them as being TRUE.
I have come to the view that every move I make is a gamble towards my own peace of mind and like any good gambler I seek to improve my skills and learn the odds of the game and not to expect the game to bend in my direction out of any magical concern for me.

Are We Missing the Bigger Picture???
by drew sagan inwe all pretty much have come to the same conclusion here that the watchtower is a corrupt system that controlls it's followers.
through websites, tv, and books many have put in alot of time exposing the teachings for what they really are.
but is there something going on in the organization right now that is even bigger than the false doctrines, something that shows they are in the planning stage of something that's even more corrupt than what is going on now?

we are the TRUE snake oil sales people....look those other PHONEY snake oil sales people have ingredients in their snake oilnot found in the official snake oil cook book! they have made a poison that is most foul.... our snake oil is pure!
sure we have to constantly modify the claims we make for what the snake oil does and will do, but trust us, we are not tampering with the original ingrediants like those phoneys

I Asked My Wife A Question Yesterday
by enlightenedcynic inover the last two weeks since i posted about my wife taking me to the elders, i have been working very hard to save my marriage.
i have made arrangements for babysitting so that we can go out at least once or twice a week.
we have taken in a movie, gone for a walk, gone to the beach, gone to the museum, gone to a jazz concert and just yesterday we went to a coffee house and talked over a nice cup of joe.

a question my brother asked me that did not bother me at the time came back to haunt me years later...
if as the JWs teach there is no immortal soul...and at death the body returns to the ground and is no more and the spirit returns to God and is no more than a force like electricity that carries no personality... what exactly is raised from the dead?
my brothers exact question was, why would you waste your life so that a copy of you can enjoy paradise?
I think it exposed a hidden flaw in JW theology that took a while for me to grasp... JWs while denying the immortal soul, secretly, even to their own minds, accept that some part of them does infact survive death to be raisable at a later date.

Witnesses cannot refute the real "TRUTH"
by integ inno matter what any pompass ass witness says about the religion being the "truth", they cannot refute the simple fact that nothing they have ever predicted has come true.
that's a pretty poor record for gods' chosen people.
oh sure they can point to lame obvious things such as " critical times getting harder to deal with" (even that is debatable), but no hard facts to point to that show they are right, or have ever been.

the difference between most main line religions and JWs is that most of them are smart enough to lie about things no one can check...which is also why JWs have always been and will always remain a minority religion not unlike the mormons

Infallibility of Scripture
by drew sagan inone of this biggest teachings present in mostly all christian denominations is the idea that the bible is infallibile.
my question is, where does the bible say this?
i know of many scriptures that point to the idea that what was written was directed by god, but where does the idea that what written is totally without error originate?

a wise man once wrote, books are mirrors of the soul.... no monkey reading a bible will find a monkey staring back.
words are not containers of meaning....but instead trigger experiences in the reader[s]. if your experiences vary too much from the author the story you read will be very different from what the author intended.
the notion that some group like the WTS has the magic glasses to know what the author intended is what cultish groups the world over offer.
the Catholic Church stated this long ago... CT Russell made similar noises when he wrote the studies in the scriptures.

if the directions are followed explicitly in the bible, the lid of the ark being of solid gold and the box itself being covered with gold would be a dead short circuit and probably would not charge up more than any other metalic object of its size in the dry air...and while that may scare someone to death, it will not likely fry them.

I believe in the Generator Of Dreams....and Dreams dont always have to make sense (^_^)
the bible is just another of the many things that my Dream maker has sent my way.... and while some things seem true and others seem false, I am not really sure either term has any actual meaning in the end... as all my expeirences are what my Dream makers has given me to live....
do I believe the Bible represents anything real? no (^_^)
